Here are my ten juicy tips for getting out of feeling lost.

(Hint: doing even a few will put you on the right path!)

Because here’s the real secret about feeling lost: deep down, we all know what we want to be doing in life. But it’s usually buried beneath fears – both conscious and subconscious – that hold us back from claiming it.

Taking actions, whether they be energetic, spiritual, or practical, means we are able to make those small shifts that add up to big changes. Until, eventually, we no longer feel lost.

1. Announce your big dream to someone supportive in your life.

(Supportive = will respond with “That’s awesome! Let’s do it! How can I help?” instead of any doubts.)

2. Tell yourself that you’re in research mode.

You don’t have to “do” anything, only research the big dream right now. And then make time for that in your life. (Umm…possibly instead of Facebook or Netflix…)

3. Make a list of ten people that you could speak to about the industry or field you’re interested in.

Make the list, even if it seems crazy, out there, or you don’t have enough experience to pursue that field. And then contact one or two and set up a time to meet for coffee to pick their brain.

4. Ask yourself the question, “What is my heart calling me to do?”

And then meditate for 10 minutes, allowing the question to subside. Afterwards, write down whatever comes up – no editing.

5. Do the ideal life exercise.

6. Ask for a dream before you go to sleep.

Ask for the dream to point you in the direction of your calling and purpose. (Keep a journal and pen beside your bed so that you can write down answers the next morning or in the middle of the night.)

7. Have that conversation you’ve been avoiding, whether it’s a big or a small one.

You know what it is, you don’t need to ask. It’s that place where you’ve been living out of integrity with yourself.

Why does this work? Because the more we align with our values in one area of our life, the easier it is in other areas. Here are a few examples:

  • “I’m sorry I’ve avoided your calls.”
  • “I’m sorry for what I said last week.”
  • “I can no longer bake cupcakes for the PTA.” (No apology or excuse needed here!)
  • “I need more time with you.”
  • “I feel like we’ve fallen out of love.”

8. Ask the universe for a sign.

(I usually ask the universe to make it pretty damn obvious.)

9. Write down the answer to this question: If I could live without fear, I would __________.

Done some of these? Did this spark something for you? Let us know in the comments or on Facebook what works for you and what doesn’t, or if you’re struggling even to get started.
